My dog is my loyal companion/muse, sometimes a Voice of Reason, sometimes a whiner or my cheerleader.  My illustrations and texts aim to capture experiences of our ordinary Life and reflects the quirky and endearing moments that we encounter on a daily basis.
Many years ago, I invested a dollar in a handwriting analysis, done by computer.  Among other things, the analysis gave me the following information:

    1.  I am inpatient when things do not go according to plan
    2.  I have a clever and calculating mind
    3.  I have a tendency to worry needlessly
4,  I could succeed as a critic in dramatic fields

Most of the time, I like to draw. My Inner Critic sometimes disagrees.

Hands are hard
Sometimes I need to practice drawing, while some people can just draw, for others of us it is a skill that needs to be nurtured. I don't really like to draw hands, but I do like to draw people, and most people have hands. Despite my best efforts to avoid hands, and feet, too, most drawings of people need at least a suggestion of hands and feet.

Collages
This series were a winter project when the studio was too cold. While binging Netflix, all the bits and pieces collected over many years came together in these mythical animals. My favorite was GoatBoy, who is a dreamer, but nobody cares.

Baja California,
The Sea of Cortez Diary

This past year I have spent many months with a friend who has a place for me on the beach, facing the Sea of Cortez, the Vermillion Sea, because of the amazing sunsets (www.leenadesign.com). During this time I challenged myself to draw and have a daily sketchbook practice. No small feat for me, but turns out, fun, and very enlightening. I owe this new development in my “Quest to Reinvent Myself at 75” to three people: my dear friend Leena for the time and space, Kathryn England, www.katherineengland.com, for the best ever sketchbook workshop, and Lynda Barry, (www.drawnandquarterly.com/author/lynda-barry) associate professor of art and Discovery Fellow at University of Wisconsin Madison, accidental professor, cartoonist and author of life-changing books for me, although I have never met her, but would really like to do just that.

These drawing are not only from my direct experiences, but inspired by Lynda Barry’s Syllabus, a book that is literally her lesson “plans,” for her innovative classes on making comics.
